Mummy Thoughts

Mudderella 2016

Kyle has always wanted to do some sort of mud race to challenge himself. This year he decided that he was going to do “Tough Mudder Toronto” so he signed up with cousin Andrea and Michael. It is north of Barrie in Coldwater, only about 2.5hours away. Tough Mudder is approximately 16km obstacle race, like it’s name, through mud and stuff. I had no desire to join him.

While on their website, I clicked a link and there was a shorter version of the Tough Mudder, “Mudderella“. Only 9km. Obstacle course made for specifically for women. I figured, I could do that and it was right here in Kitchener. It was a no brainer. I wanted to do it but didn’t want to do it alone. I asked around but to no avail. I mentioned it to a few ladies in my choir and they said that they were interested and then we left it at that. Mid spring, they had a sale, buy 3 tickets get one free. So finally we made a decision and we were going to do it. We also ended up joining up with another group of 8 people so there were 12 of us of different levels of fitness helping each other.

During the summer as I attempted to work out more, since the race was approaching, I kept on thinking “what have I got myself into??” The nice thing was it forced me to work out and not be lazy. I was going to my weekly Yoga, eventually, I realized I had to do cardio so I started jogging to yoga. Double workout…

It all paid off at the end of August when I finally attend Mudderella. I had a blast. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, the runs uphill were a little harder. In this case, slow and steady was key… There is an advantage of being light I was able to lift myself over the obstacles. Maybe those push ups paid off.

Needless to say I had a blast. So glad I decided to do it. I met some great people and had tons of fun. I am not really into running so the obstacles made a great variety. This is not a race, more of a personal challenge. What you can do, how far you want to push yourself or not. Staying in your comfort zone or doing more.

Next year we 4 girls are going to do the “Tough Mudder” or the “Tough Mudder Half”. I think the obstacles are a little more challenging at Tough Mudder. Let’s see how the crew do at Tough Mudder tomorrow.

I can carry anything!

This mud thing...

Hands and Knees

Hands and Knees

There is no mud on my chest!

There is no mud on my front!

Wading through the mud!

Wading through the mud!
