Mummy Thoughts

Merry Christmas 2012

Hi all,
Wow, it’s Christmas time again.  The kids are 1 year old and so are we…

Another wonderful year in Ottawa.  The kids are now in grades 2, 4 and 6 and doing very well at school.  They are all still in the same school with Matthew and Andrew in French immersion and Natalie taking French as a subject 1/4 of the day.  We still walk to school every morning but new this year, they have been taking the bus home and walking home from the bus stop.  This gives me an extra half hour at the end of their school day to get a little more work done.  Sometimes more, now with all the snow, they end up playing in the snow and their walk is longer…

At the beginning of the year I continued with my French classes all the way till the summer.  At least now I am able to help Andrew with his homework.  I am better at the grammar and when it comes to speaking, I get help from Matthew for the pronunciations!

This year the boys continued with water polo and floor hockey till summer and Natalie took dance lessons all at the Y.  They had such a good time.  The Y was like our second home.  We were there almost everyday.  Once a week, I did a pilates class and Kyle did Yoga.  Kyle and Matthew also did a session of Tae Kwon Do at the Y.

Unfortunately in the spring, our neighbourhood Y closed and now once a week we make the trek to the downtown Y for the kids activities.  Matthew has completed all his swimming levels, star 6 at the Y and Andrew is almost done.  So Natalie and Andrew are still doing swimming lessons.  During that time Matthew and I just go swimming or work out and then go relax in the hot tub after!

The kids also did volley ball at the Y in the fall.  They didn’t really enjoy it though they did finish the session and needless to say they won’t be continuing in the winter.  Andrew and Natalie want to play indoor soccer.  During the summer all 3 of them played soccer on Saturday mornings with the “home school” league. It was very informal and they all learned lots and had tons of fun.  With the hot summer that we had, I was glad it was in the mornings.

This fall, Matthew played inter-school soccer and Andrew ran in the inter-school cross-country meet.  Andrew came in 5th in his age group for the English Catholic School board, over 200 kids.  We were blown away. My mum and dad were there with us during the meet and we were so proud of his achievement.  Our little Andrew among the sea of kids.

The boys started their first job this year too.  They deliver the weekly flyers in the neighbourhood.  They have 2 routes and it works well with each boy doing one side of the road.  I just pull the cart with the flyers and they have the route down to 35 minutes.  Unfortunately with the snow, we are going to be slowed down.  I enjoy going out with them, forces met to get out of the house.  Most days Natalie joins us and play en route and other times, she runs over to the neighbours and just hangs out there.

This fall Kyle and I started Salsa dancing at the Y too.  We figured that we needed a date night for ourselves.  It is coming along and we are both planning on continuing in the winter session.

Kyle is still working at JAZZ Solar, him doing the designs and installation and I have been working on Sales part time.  I still work from home which gives me the flexibility to be there for the kids when they get home from school.  Works out well as we can work on home work when they get home before dinner.  They usually don’t have a lot of homework but we have to work on their Chinese homework daily.  Yes they are still taking Mandarin classes Saturday mornings.  They can all read and write, still a little weak on the speaking side.  They always ask to play computers and ask for candy in Mandarin though…. We are getting there.

This summer we made a road trip down to Georgia to the mobile home park.  The park manager got ill and we had to find someone to replace her.  After a few hurdles, we now have a great  new couple maintaining and running the park. Everything is going well and we are looking at acquiring more properties in the new year.

This summer we also flew to Winnipeg to visit the family.  My sister moved from Malaysia with her 2 boys and we had a mini family reunion with my sister and her family.  We 3 siblings haven’t been together for over 11 years.  This was a good reunion for my mum and dad.  The grandkids had never met each other, so it was great too see them all play and get along so well.

That was our year in a nutshell, before I end this post, I wanted to share something with you.  Tonight I was able to do something I have always wanted to do.  To sing a solo of a Christmas Carol.  I did O Holy Night and Kyle recorded. You can watch the video at

Hope you had a great year and here’s wishing you all a Merry Christmas and all the Best in the New Year.

Love from all of us.
