The cost of having Boys…

the boys

the boys

When our kids were little, my friends and I had discussions about what was more expensive having girls or boys.  There were many ideas and assumptions on which actually cost more.  When girls are little, we buy them cute clothes and other frivolous things, like cute little dresses and pink things…  Later on in life in their tweens, with makeup and fashion needs, the cost goes up.  For boys, there wasn’t too many cute outfits for them when they were little and they didn’t have too many other need except for toys.  Later on in their life, when they grew and started eating more we knew that the cost of having a boy would go up.  One of my friends also reminded me about the boys friends who come over and hang out and stay for meals…..

Today I was helping out a friend who’s 2 boys were off school.  I took them swimming and guess what, I forgot the snacks, actually I forgot half the snacks, I had the apples and not the oatmeal cookies.  Of course the apples were gone even before I came out of the change room.  At least they save one for their sister.

After the pool we headed off to the library but they were all restless there, I think they were all hungry.  Needless to stay we didn’t stay for very long.  As soon as we got home, they hit the snacks.  Then half hour later we had a full lunch.  OK the higher cost of having  a boy has started.  I cannot say that I hadden been forewarned but it is fun to see it happening.  All the jokes and discussion about it is coming true.  That is OK, they are having fun, That is the main thing.  As long as they are not picky eaters, their friends are all welcome to dine with us.  There is always enough food for everyone!

On a side note, while the boys were having lunch, Matthew explained how he has given up chocolate for Lent, so 40 days without chocolate.  When the boys heard this, one of them joined in and said “I will give up something too, I will give up school for 40 days”.  That was some quick thinking…
