This is the New Year in the Lunar calendar, the year of the tiger. We celebrated the coming of the New Year at my aunts place with a reunion dinner last night, new year eve. As my parents are in Malaysia with my sister’s family, we just chatted with them over the telephone.
Today we started the New Year with mass and today we are off to Joel, my brother’s place for lunch. After which we will come home and have our own family celebration at dinner. When we were little, we always went to our grandma’s house in Malaysia and the first two days of the New Year was spent visiting family and friends. There was lots of red packets(with money) and lots of good food. Being in Canada, the Chinese New year experience is much less calm, not as many people to visit and not as much food! The Chinese like to eat!
We work on preserving some of our Chinese culture with our children as we learn the language and teach them about the special days and traditions.
