No One Can Make You Inferior Without Your Consent
Ok, I have to admit, I watched Princess Diaries last night. Sometimes when you listen carefully there is always something that you can learn from these movies not just the happy endings.
So one of the quotes in the movie was “No one can make you inferior without your consent” by Eleanor Roosevelt. That is so true. You can either listen to the comment, ignore it and move on or you can dwell on it and make yourself miserable. I choose the former. You are not inferior to anyone. You are who you wish to be. Some people might not like it and make you fell “small” and will tell you, take it with a grain of salt and just move on.
This is one of the most important things that I am working on teaching the kids, not to let others put you down and be confident of who you are. There are many opportunities for this with 3 kids who play together. Sometimes the play so well together and other times they are bickering and then someone cries. Usually it is not because of what someone did, it is usually what someone said. These are the opportunities to talk about what they said, why they said it and help them understand how it affects themselves and others. Unfortunately words can sometimes hurt more.
Kid are amazing when it come to reasoning. They totally understand when you take the time to talk to them. They are never too young to understand and comprehend! Remember how they can manipulate parents even when they were infants?
We as adults have much to learn from kids. Many times they are mimicing us. What they say and do is most probably what they have seen us do. This is the time for us to take note of our own behavior, “Correct and Continue”.
What are your thought?
