Donating Your Hair for Wigs

Last month I wrote a post about Hair.  “Is Hair just an accessory?”  I think it is, hair styles change just like how you change jewelery and clothes.  So like I did 2 years ago, it is time to change my hair style again.  What’s the big deal?  Well  I am going to cut my hair short and donate it once again to “Angel Hair for Kids“.

Angel Hair for Kids provides wigs and hair loss solutions to financially disadvantaged children in Canada who have lost their hair due to a medical condition or treatment.  Every year thousands of children will lose their hair due to conditions such as cancer treatments, alopecia and even burns.  Providing a wig or hair loss solution will increase their self esteem and improve self image, helping them to feel more like themselves again during a very difficult, upsetting and sometimes painful time in their lives.  This might help them face their condition and daily life with greater confidence.  Click here to download more information.

I am blessed with beautiful healthy hair.  I have been growing it for the last couple of years, it is about 12 inches long now and the minimum length that they need is 10 inches.  That might leave me with about an inch after cutting off the pony tails.  When I donated last time, I shaved it, I am hoping the hair dresser can salvage something and I don’t have to be bald this time!!

Anyways, did you know that they need about 10 to 12 heads of hair to make 1 wig? And about $800 to manufacture it?  If you are deciding to cut your hair short consider donating it as well or if you have long hair, do you feel like cutting it?

For information on donation, see www.achildsvoicefoundation.com in Canada, or locksoflove.org in the U.S.  This is a little something that you could do for a child.

Thanks to all of you who can help.
