Is Hair just an accessory?
Well I did another night of student teaching at the pool tonight and had another good night of learning. The most eventful one is with a boy in Red Cross Level 9. I have been with this class for 3 weeks and he has bangs that go pass his eyes. So when he is doing the front crawl, he flicks his head out instead of rolling it to the side. That is not proper technique and I keep telling him to do something about it.
Tonight, I pull out the elastic from my hair and tied it up on top of his head. This helped a little bit with his rolls but now the flick has become a habit and it gets frustrating as a instructor. It was getting better by the end of the class. His mum said that he is has been refusing a hair cut for the last little while. Hopefully this hair tying will bring about some sort of change. Most kids concentrate on the hair that gets in their faces that they don’t really end up working on their stokes.
So is hair really just an accessory? When I shaved my hair bald year before last, people said I was brave. I knew that it would grow back and it was a fun experience being bald, the hardest part was growing it out as my hair grows outwards, like a porcupine! I had approached many people and they said that they were too afraid. Get our of your comfort zone, it is only for a short period of time and your hair grows back. Think about those who can never have hair!
Actually someone offered me a wig, I wasn’t too sure how to respond to that. I was proud that I shaved my head to raise money for kids with cancer and was able to donate my hair too.
It has almost been two years and I think I will be able to donate my hair again. What about you. Ever thought about donating your hair that don’t have? Check out their website and make a kid happy, it takes 8 heads of hair to make one wig. Do something for kids without!
